Businessman Micheal Gikonyo Muthoni is in trouble after he allegedly defrauded job seekers of millions of shillings contrary to the law.

Gikonyo, the court heard, allegedly used tricks of demanding millions from job seekers, claiming that he would get them lucrative jobs abroad, a fact he knew to be false.
Gikonyo, popularly known as David Mbugua Mungai, was charged before Milimani Magistrate Lucas Onyina, where he denied the charges.
The court heard that the accused person committed the offence on October 5th, 2024, and October 28th, 2024, at an unknown location within the Republic of Kenya.

He is said to have obtained Sh1,951,000 from Christine Nyambura Nkonge by falsely claiming he could secure jobs abroad for her clients, knowing this to be untrue.
Nkonge is the complainant in the case, and he is a key prosecution witness.
Additionally, Gikonyo was also charged with a second count of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 313 of the Penal Code.
According to the chargesheet, the accused person committed the offence on various dates between October 21st, 2024, and October 28th, 2024; he obtained Sh300,000 under the same false claims.
In court he pleaded for lenient bond terms on the ground that he was not a flight risk.
The court released him on a cash bail of Ksh 400,000 or a bond of Ksh 700,000.
The case will proceed later this month for further directions
