A Kenyan man who is allegedly associated with a fake gold merchant was arrested in Nairobi after he used tricks and defrauded a foreigner to the tune of over Sh5 million in a fake gold scam.

Stephen Magero, according to the investigators, defrauded a Pakistani national of money after he promised him that he was in a position to supply him with some kilograms of gold.

Stephen Magero was arrested after the detectives from Langata police station pounded on him following an intensive search.

The fake gold dealer was arrested at Sultan Suites, Ngong View Estate, following investigations into a complaint filed by the foreign national who reported being defrauded of the money.

\According to the reports from the security departments, the suspect presented the complainant with 500 grams of counterfeit gold and received the payment in cash.

Subsequent testing revealed that what had been delivered was fake gold, prompting the complainant to report the matter at Karen Police Station.

A search conducted at the suspect’s office resulted in the recovery of ten bars of suspected fake gold, business cards bearing the name John Mbalaka, a MacBook Pro laptop and smelting machines, and related apparatus.

Additionally, the police are said to have recovered a mining certificate under the name Chawanda Minerals, a weighing machine, two plastic boxes containing sand and several assorted files and documents.
