Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing them of sponsoring goons to disrupt a church service he was attending on Sunday.

The chaotic scenes unfolded at PCEA Kasarani East Parish, where suspected hired youths attempted to invade the service before being repelled by Gachagua’s security detail.

The visibly agitated former DP directly blamed the President and Sakaja for the incident, terming it a new low in political intimidation.

“I didn’t mind being targeted outside church premises if that’s his way of doing things,” Gachagua said. “But now you’re sending goons inside God’s house? Mr. President, what happened to you?”

Gachagua further alleged that police officers had been instructed to stand down during the attack, claiming only a few plainclothes officers volunteered to assist.

“We know that the Deputy Inspector General ordered police to stay away. Only a few patriotic officers showed up,” he said.

The former second-in-command issued a stern warning, asserting that even if he were to be “eliminated,” his political message would still be carried forward by his supporters.

“Eliminating Rigathi Gachagua won’t change anything. It will only make things harder for you,” he warned.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu also condemned the incident, demanding accountability. “If Ruto and Sakaja were behind this, they must be called out. You can’t bring violence into a church,” he stated.

The fallout between Ruto and Gachagua continues to escalate following the latter’s impeachment in late 2024.
